Aren't we all ready for a fresh breeze to blow? This windmill will carry the charm of the Dutch countryside into your home, or the home of someone you love. Inspired by our travels through the lovely Netherlands, this faux-timber accented piece is a perfect complement to one of our handmade holiday villages, yet detailed enough to make a statement all by itself.
Measurements include the span of the sails. And isn’t it cool that they’re called sails? Love that. You’re wondering if those sails can spin? Of course they can!
Once your windmill arrives all you need to do is pop it up and put the tabs through the slots, no glue or tape required. Tuck in the LED tea light included with US shipments, and sit back to enjoy the glow.

I use creamy French watercolor paper, beautifully textured and very strong, as the foundation for each building. I cut meticulous details with a blade, not a laser -- this means every cut is crisp and beautiful, never toasted! Everything is hand-assembled by me, with some luminaries having as many as nine layers or close to 80 pieces. Finally the most delicate bits are reinforced until every house is, literally, ready to shine. The finished houses are folded flat for shipping and storage.
Your paper lanterns may differ slightly from the photos. As each one is made especially for you, every building is unique.
My paper buildings will come to you fully assembled and folded flat. Simply pop the house up and ease the tabs through the slots -- they will fit snugly. And that's it, no glue or tape needed. Tuck in the LED tea light, then sit back and enjoy the glow! After the holidays just press the bottom where labeled and the house will flatten for storage, or leave them out year round, as many collectors do.
Because they are paper, our houses should only sit on dry surfaces. Some of our collectors set them out on pretty crockery, rustic wooden boards, or other decorative surfaces to protect them from moisture. Weight each house with a handful of pennies or uncooked rice -- this will hold it in place if a small breeze blows through your festivities. Bring inside at the end of the party! They will not last outdoors overnight.
Far thicker than traditional card stock, my 140 pound French watercolor paper is not only beautiful, it is strong. With this mighty paper for a foundation, my buildings are designed to last for years. And unlike ceramic or wooden Christmas villages, these resilient paper lanterns are more likely to survive an accidental fall from a mantel, or from curious little hands.
Paper naturally absorbs humidity from the air over time, so it's important to stow your houses in a dry location with a constant temperature. An interior space, such as a closet or a small box under the bed, would be ideal. Then, when you pull your houses out next winter, they will be fresh and ready to go. Or, to glow!
Germany takes recycling seriously, and I applaud them for it. Their LUCID program ensures that all recycling costs associated with packaging and shipping materials are prepaid by the business where they originate. My little business is too small at this time to register with the LUCID program, so I am not legally able to ship to Germany.

My husband and I just love the newest addition to our collection of Belgium Paperworks pieces we have gathered over the past few years. Every detail of the windmill is thoughtful and impeccable - from the design itself to the packaging and handwritten note inside the box. We thought we would only leave her pieces up during the Christmas season but decided to keep them up all year round and we get comments and compliments when people see them. They are neutral enough to blend in with the look we already had going but interesting enough to be a focal point in the room. Would make a wonderful gift for someone or for yourself. Buying from Belgium Paperworks is always a lovely experience!
